The Standard Rules
Rule 5-204.4
Impolite status inquiries
It is improper for a peer or subordinate to inquire about the status of a request other than with a polite, apologetic
recasting of the original request in one or more complete sentences. One who receives an impolite inquiry may reply in kind, or may reply with a link
to this rule.
Examples
Impolite inquiries: "Any news?", "?", "Status?" and "Update please?"
A proper inquiry: "I know you have thousands of competing demands on your time, but I believe we need
to reply to Company X's requrest for information about widget Y before Friday. It would be a terrific help if I could explain when we
expect to provide the information. I am grateful for your assistance. Cheers, Scott."
